The Founder of Umandawa
Most Ven Siri Samanthabhadra Arahath Thero
Most Ven Siri Samanthabhadra Arahath Thero's distinctive concept, Umandawa, is spread across 70 acres in Malsiripura, Kurunegala. The Thero envisioned a master plan to create an aesthetically pleasing and environmentally friendly 'walking monastery' with hamlets, gravel paths, gardens, organic farms, ponds and large bodies of water, and sculptures.
The environment's balance was restored by planting rain gardens and growing a variety of plants, flowers, and trees, both native and exotic to Sri Lanka. In this way, wildlife has been encouraged to thrive at Umandawa. The Thero created a healthy, nourishing environment in which people can learn how to live in harmony with one another and with the Earth.
THE VISION OF UMANDAWA
The Umandawa Global Buddhist Village provides a variety of modules that can be applied to the improvement of society. These modules can also be used to prepare your mind for innovation and spiritual guidance through the practice of "Living in presence."

Food instead of medicine
Everything is organic at Umandawa, and no artificial fertilizer is used in the cultivation of fresh produce or paddy. There is lush greenery, and an abundance of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Spice gardens and fields of ginger are also a part of the landscape.
